I believe anyone can be an artist.
This right to create as a human, is gate-kept. It is paywalled. It is hidden from the masses to keep their ignorance as a veil from consumerism’s wrath on the independence of the soul.
As an artist, my process begins sitting alongside my soul on a plush couch, with every version of my past in memory, my present being, and aspiring self, to have a conversation.
Though awkward and uncomfortable at times, I find immense value in this creative meditation-like process. My tolerance for sitting in this headspace is high now given my life experiences.
In this act, the privilege of sitting with yourself pushes to resist mass media measured in the metric of capitalistic success.
I believe this rest, this checkpoint by a fire pit of warmth and rejuvenation and reflection, is crucial for internal development.
Rest resists, how punk.
Here is a formulaic way of describing the contradictions between my process and mass media’s process and the energy of input and output transactions:
PERSONAL CONTRADICTIONS
(Awkwardness + Comfort) → Conversation with Self
(Rest + Productivity) → Reflection
(Vulnerability + Resistance) → Art
SYSTEMIC CONTRADICTIONS
(Authenticity + Branding) → Marketable Persona
(Intimacy + Spectacle) → Viral Content
(Individuality + Algorithm) → Homogenization
COMPARATIVE ENERGY FLOW
Artist Inputs + High ΔE (loss)
→ Creation = Intrinsic Value
System Inputs + Artist Creation Output + Low ΔE (gain)
→ Commodification + Monetization = Declining Value
NET REACTION
Artist Loss >> System Gain → Creation drained into Commodity → Value inverted (Intrinsic → Consumable)
